Part-time Helpline Adviser, Newcastle - £7.70 per hour
Candidates should note that it is a requirement of this post to undergo an enhanced level CRB check, List 99 clearance and to provide two references, as the position involves working with young people. An offer of employment will not be made until satisfactory clearance is gained. When the Independent Safeguarding Authority is fully launched, it will be a requirement for all candidates to register. Your ongoing employment will depend on satisfactory clearance being obtained and should your eligibility change at any point, the client will execute its child safety obligation to inform the relevant authority. We reserve the right to undertake further security checks as may be deemed relevant to ensure the ongoing safety of our customers.
Our client is a leading contact centre, which provides information, advice and guidance to 13-19 year olds on all issues that impact their lives. We are currently recruiting for a pool of sessional helpline advisors for their contact centre in Newcastle city centre.
Main duties include:
* Handle a range of inbound and outbound calls, textphone, text messaging, email and webchat within operational and quality guidelines.
* Access and research information sought by callers quickly and accurately.
* Accurately collate and record contact and user information.
* Assess user needs either directly or as a referral and either meet these needs or refer to another agency or to a specialist.
Successful applicants must possess the following knowledge and experience:
* Working towards NVQ Level 4 or equivalent in one of the following areas (education, careers advice/guidance, health and welfare issues, youth work and youth justice, drug / alcohol / substance misuse, sociology, psychology) and/or have relevant experience within a contact centre.
* Ability to research complex and sensitive issues independently and quickly.
* Excellent telephone manner.
* Computer literate.
* Ability to cope with a range of distressing issues under pressure, using personal initiative.
* Listening skills and can interact with young people in an empathetic and non-judgmental fashion.
* Understanding of confidentiality in relation to young people's service provision
Full training will be provided to ensure that you have all the information you need to do the job.
This service is open 365 days per year from 8am to 2pm with flexibility required to work late shifts and weekends. These are part-time positions with successful applicants required to commit to shifts on a monthly basis (approx 16-20 hours per week).
