Job Details

Senior Hardware Developer

This role covers a mixture of sub-contract management for contracted out development programmes and technical design & verification skills for in house development. It requires experience and skills across the full development lifecycle; from technical specification through design and verification, and into product integration and mass production.

Working as part of a dynamic team of baseband hardware and RF developers, the responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
* Technical design & specification of equipment and accessory products.
* Subcontractor/supplier selection, management & liaison.
* Detailed design and test documentation.
* Definition of product acceptance criteria & testing.
* Product integration and acceptance testing.
* Manufacturing requirements & test specification authoring.
* Technical support for mandatory approvals process.
* Installation & user guide authoring.
* Resolution of hardware design and integration issues.
* Technical support to end customers and subcontract manufacturers.
* Progress reporting.

Technical Skills (Essential):

The applicant should have skills and experience in the following areas:
* Subcontractor liaison & project management skills.
* Engineering process and control.
* Audio design for communications accessories (headsets, handsfree).
* Knowledge of remote control and audio devices, their design, implementation, approvals and testing
* Experience in the preparation and policing of supplier procurement and test specifications
* Audio testing ? performance/quality.
* Small micro-controller circuit design e.g. PIC design.
* Li-ion Battery charger design experience.
* Bluetooth integration (audio & data).
* Integration of near field communication technologies.
* Design for integration in RF environments.
* Design for ESD protection.
* Design for EMC.
* Design for rugged environmental conditions.
* Appreciation of vehicle installation mandatory requirements.
* Relevant degree (BSc/ MSc/ PhD in Electronic Engineering or similar)

Technical Skills (Desirable):

The following skills and experience are highly desirable:
* Tetra/GSM/Dect etc. Handset Design
* Memories (board mounted and card based)
* Switched mode and linear regulators circuit design
* Audio circuit design
* Design for low power, miniature SMT, and high volume manufacture
* Displays technologies
* Baseband to RF Interfaces
* GPS and other navigational solutions
* Security & Encryption devices/techniques
* Project management
* RFID experience
* Antenna specification & test
* Safety approvals
* Warranty & service agreements

Personal Attributes (Essential):
* Excellent communications skills are essential
* Gets on with others in a small, focused team working to tight deadlines and costs
* Conscientious, reliable, and enthusiastic worker who takes pride in his work

Personal Attributes (Desirable):
* Worldwide travel will be required on occasion
* Experience in working in a small/medium size 'high tech' company
* Commercially aware
